When it comes to luxury cars, few names ever come close to the prestige and reputation that Bentley Motors has attained over the years. The company has produced a number of amazing vehicles, one of which was the Turbo R, a car that, when it was first unveiled, declared to be "the first Bentley in decades deserving of the famous name" by the magazine known as Motor Trend. Today, just like then, people are looking for a Bentley Turbo R for sale to get a Bentley of their own, as it is one of the most popular Bentleys ever produced.
The very first Turbo R rolled off the factory in 1985, and was a high-performance model made by the company to serve as a replacement for the older Mulsanne Turbo. At first, it inherited the turbocharged engine from the Mulsanne Turbo, along with other features very similar to its predecessor, like a retuned suspension, wider tires with alloys, and more. All of these changed, however, for the Turbo Rs that were manufactured from 1987 onward, when the engine was retuned with Bosch MK-Motronic fuel injection to add more torque and power.
But those weren't the only changes, because more improvements will be made during the Turbo R's run, which would include sports seats and higher rear axle rotations. The changes to the suspension seemed very subtle, but it actually improved the car significantly enough that it performed a whole lot better. Over time, even more changes would be implemented, like improving the anti-roll bar rates, the installation of a Panhard rod to decrease the sideways motion of the car when turning corners, and the inclusion of tuned dampers.
Rolls Royce did not release any solid figures regarding the Turbo R's engine during its run. However, Motor Trend was able to give estimates when they did their feature on the Turbo R. Their findings say that the estimated power of the engine was around 486.6 lb.ft of torque, 221 kW, and 296 hp.
The Turbo R's original price was pegged at around US$195,000. These days though, even an older Turbo R, depending on the maintenance of the car, and the condition of the vehicle, would still fetch for quite a large amount. It is proof of the car's enduring appeal and classic style.
